In my compositions I try to trace the connections between the different areas of life: the hidden similarities of the inner and outer world, of intellect and affect, of science and art. In the sciences, too, there is a tendency today to search for overarching laws in the diversity of phenomena. But the research of art obeys other laws. Its methods are subjective, its result is variation.
One of the subjects I vary is the aspect of movement. Of all the arts, music is undoubtedly the most suitable for this, because it does not merely represent movement, but is movement itself. What does it mean to compose movement sequences? A few fragments of thoughts from the catalogue of possible answers: measuring the physical (external) and harmonic (internal) space; the alternation between sharpness and blurriness of the figures; the tension between the expansion of sound and the adventure of microstructure; sound processes that become psychic energy flows; giving impulses that overcome the natural inertia of matter, opening up new dimensions of thinking and feeling... And always the question: What is the origin of sound, of movement? What is impulse, what is reverberation?
The work was commissioned by Radio Suisse Romande / Espace 2 for the world premiere at the festival "Les amplitudes" 2007 in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
